This is mostly just being cheap, but I got the idea from a friend of mine who had made her own Do it yourself Roman Blinds. In theory this is pretty easy and in my case it was really easy, because this particular lady just loves to show off her abilities. I am sure you have met a lot of people like this in your life and in this case I did not really intend to convince her to do it all for me. My plan was for her to show me how she did it and then I would mess around until I got it all sorted out. It really is not all that hard, but it takes a little bit of fooling around to get it right. Obviously I started out not doing it quite right and she just started to take over the whole project. I could have got upset about it, but I was not all that mad about it to tell the truth.
I have been trying to figure out how to make it so that you wash the blinds though. I guess you woul have to have them dry cleaned, but it seems like you should be able to make them machine washable if you tried hard. The design that she used involves gluing three or four wood slats to the fabric. Then you add loops, nylon loops to the slats and that is how you make them. It is not that hard, but there is a trick to it just like any other thing. I was thinking that you could just as easily sew little slots into the fabric. It would not add that much to the design and obviously if you used a good washable fabric that would be quite a good idea.
